National Health Realty (NHR) continues to nurse its position in the business world. The company is a real estate investment trust (REIT) that owns nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, and a retirement center. Many of the company's properties are former holdings of National HealthCare (NHC), one of the nation's largest nursing home chains. NHC leases nearly two-thirds of NHR's properties under triple-net leases. Although NHC has spun off its real estate assets to the REIT, the companies still maintain an advisory agreement through which NHC provides NHR with investment advice and management services. NHC in late 2006 said it would buy back NHR.
