Finding a flaw on a semiconductor was a high-tech version of finding a needle in a haystack until ICOS Vision Systems came along. A leading designer and supplier of machine vision and inspection systems, the company offers proprietary technology (a camera and software combination) that can "see" the position and quality of a product during assembly. The product line is divided into three areas: component inspection equipment, system-level devices, and board-level devices. The company gets more than half of its sales from customers in the Asia/Pacific region, where most of the world's top contractors in semiconductor packaging and testing are located. KLA-Tencor acquired ICOS Vision Systems in mid-2008.
