Brazil's #1 grocer operates the Pão de Açúcar, CompreBem, and Sendas supermarket chains; Extra hypermarkets and convenience stores; Eletro electronics and appliance stores; and e-commerce sites (paodeacucar.com.br and extra.com.br). The company's strategy of operating diversified businesses -- it targets low-income consumers with its Eletro chain and hawks private-label goods to Pão de Açúcar shoppers -- made it a leading Brazilian food retailer. CBD grows by acquiring regional retailers. The founding Diniz family and French food retailer Casino Guichard-Perrachon share control of the company.
