VeriSign has vowed to serve and protect Internet interactions. The company is a big part of what makes the Internet work. It operates two of the world's 13 root nameservers, which assign Internet protocol addresses to devices communicating across the Internet. VeriSign is also the only issuer of the .com and .net domain names that are sold to users by companies such as domain registrars Go Daddy and Register.com. In addition to its registry business, VeriSign provides digital certificate and SSL (secure socket layer) services for secure communications and transactions online. More than 90,000 domains in 145 countries use its digital certificates and 96 of the world's 100 largest banks use its SSL protection.
