It's not the Tour de France, but a race is on for France's mobile phone customers, and Société Française du Radiotéléphone (SFR) is riding behind yellow jersey-clad incumbent France Telecom. SFR is the country's second-largest wireless telecom operator with about 20 million subscribers. The company extends the reach of its nationwide network internationally through agreements with other network carriers in more than 200 countries. It also offers wireline voice and data services for consumers and business customers. In 2011 Vivendi became SFR's sole parent after it bought the 44% stake it didn't own from Vodafone for about $11.4 billion. Vivendi took total control in order to better compete with France Telecom.
