CHC Helicopter hovers near the top of the helicopter heap. The company, which operates more than 150 helicopters in more than 30 countries worldwide, offers transportation services primarily for oil and gas exploration and production companies. CHC does much of its business in the North Sea; it also operates in several other major offshore oil production areas. In addition, the company provides helicopters for emergency medical services and offers helicopter maintenance services, through its Heli-One unit. An affiliate of investment firm First Reserve, which specializes in the energy industry, owns CHC.
