WKI Holding has cooked up a kitchen kingpin. The holding company's World Kitchen subsidiary makes some of the most popular kitchenware and tableware in the US. Its brands include Chicago Cutlery, Corelle, CorningWare, Magnalite, Pyrex, and Revere. They're sold through mass merchants, department and specialty stores, and its own factory outlet stores. WKI grew through its 1999 purchases of EKCO Group and General Housewares. It adopted the WKI Holding name in 2000 from Corning Consumer Products. Buyout firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts acquired most of the firm in 1998 from Corning. WKI Holding filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2002; however, it emerged the next year and went private in April 2004.
