A major player in the car rental industry, Avis Rent A Car System maintains some 2,200 locations, primarily in the US and Canada but also in Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The company owns about 1,275 of its locations; franchisees operate the rest. Together with sister company Budget Rent A Car System, Avis Rent A Car System has a fleet of more than 350,000 rental cars. Business travelers account for 60% of Avis' sales, with leisure renters making up the rest. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Avis Budget Group, which is seeking to acquire UK-based Avis Europe, a separately owned company with operations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and parts of Asia.
