SABIC is an acronym for Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, but it could also stand for "seriously big industrial chemicals company." Saudi Arabia's largest non-oil company, SABIC produces operates through six units: chemicals, performance chemicals, polymers (polyolefins, PVC, and polyester), SABIC Innovative Plastics, fertilizers, and metals (mostly steel, along with stakes in aluminum companies). SABIC is one of the world's largest makers of polyethylene and polypropylene (with LyondellBasell and Ineos). Its Saudi Iron and Steel Company is one of the world's largest fully-integrated steel producers. SABIC it is majority owned (70%) by the Saudi government.
