You can flick a BIC; you can write with a BIC; you can even shave with a BIC. Société BIC, the French consumer products company, makes the ubiquitous lighters, pens, and shavers. BIC sells its products in more than 160 countries. Its primary retail outlets include stationery stores, tobacco shops, drug stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets, and office supply stores. BIC also makes and surfboards and wakeboards through its BIC Sport division. Its BIC Graphic subsidiary imprints customer advertising on BIC products, such as pens and lighters. Founder Baron Marcel Bich launched the BIC ballpoint pen in 1949. The Bich family owns about 40% of BIC's stock and controls more than 55% of its voting power.
