Michigan's kids win in the Michigan Lottery, which has contributed some $13 billion to public education in the Great Lakes State since the lottery was started in 1972. The Michigan Lottery runs the Michigan Millions jackpot game, as well as daily numbers games and instant-win games such as Fantasy Fortune, Silver Dollars, and Cashword. About half of ticket sales are awarded in prizes, while more than 30% goes to the state's K-12 education fund. Retailers also get a small commission on ticket sales (about 7%). In addition, Michigan takes part in the Mega Millions multistate lottery.
