The Indiana State Lottery, also known as the "Hoosier Lottery," has created more than 350 millionaires. Out of every lottery dollar earned, 30 cents goes to the State of Indiana to fund public projects. It has returned moretah $3.4 billion to the state since its inception in 1989. Money is generated from the sale of both instant-win games and lotto drawings. The Hoosier Lottery also features PowerBall, a multistate lotto game that generates million-dollar jackpots. The first winning PowerBall ticket was sold in Indiana and the state leads the nation in PowerBall winners, with 36 as of January 2009.
