Suncor Energy takes a shine to the cold climes of Canada. That country's largest energy company explores for, processes, and markets oil and natural gas, mainly in Canada, but also in the US. It has proved and probable reserves of 7.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent. The first company to produce commercial crude oil from Canada's oil sands, Suncor produces light crude oil, diesel fuel, and custom blends from Athabasca oil sands. Its Sunoco subsidiary refines crude oil and processes and distributes fuels, petrochemicals, and heating oils. In a major move, in 2009 the company acquired integrated oil giant Petro-Canada in a $15 billion deal.
