For many the future of communications in Europe has an Orange glow. Wireless phone operator Orange has moved beyond its UK roots to become one of Europe's leading providers. The company, a subsidiary of France Telecom and the leading mobile provider in France, has more than 110 million wireless subscribers and about 12 million broadband customers. It also offers digital television and computer telephony services. In the UK, Orange is a top-three carrier along with O2 (UK) and Vodafone. The company also has stakes in wireless operators in Europe (including Belgium's Mobistar), as well as in Africa and the Middle East. France Telecom operates Orange as an independent company with its own board of directors.
