RF Micro Devices was raised on radio -- radio-frequency (RF) integrated circuits, that is. RFMD makes a variety of devices, such as amplifiers, attenuators, mixers, modulators, and transceivers, for wireless communications devices, such as cellular phones and base stations, wireless LANs, and cable TV modems. Many of the company's chips are made from gallium arsenide (GaAs) -- a material valued for wireless applications because of its speed and efficiency. RFMD's top customer is Nokia, which accounts for more than half of the company's sales. The company also sells to Huawei Technologies, LG Electronics, Motorola, Samsung Electronics, and Sony Ericsson. Customers in Asia represent nearly two-thirds of sales.
