American Business Financial Services is the holding company for American Business Credit, which directly and through subsidiaries originates, sells, and services home equity and small business loans. The company, which targets subprime customers, originates nearly a quarter of its loans in California. It markets its services through telemarketing and advertising, as well as through a direct sales force and Web site; it also purchases loans from about 30 banks through its Bank Alliance Program. CEO Anthony Santilli and American Business Credit President Beverly Santilli (husband and wife) own nearly 30% of the company. American Business Financial filed for Chapter 11 in early 2005 and plans to liquidate.
