Peregrine Systems would like to be another kind of bird and rise from the ashes. The company provides asset and service management software that helps global corporations manage their information technology (IT) assets. Peregrine's asset management software includes expense control, asset tracking, and process automation tools, and its service management software manages IT service desks. Peregrine has some personal experience with difficult business problems: as it has worked to rebuild after emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2003. In September 2005 the company agreed to be acquired by Hewlett-Packard for about $425 million.
