AVI BioPharma has a sixth sense about antisense. A developer of biopharmaceutical compounds, AVI's investigational therapies are based on its NeuGene antisense drug technology, which can halt disease processes at the genetic level. BioPharma is developing antisense drugs used in the treatment of a wide range of diseases, including hepatitis C, Dengue Fever, cancer, and genetic diseases. Its lead candidate, Resten-NG, is undergoing clinical testing as a treatment for restenosis, or narrowing of the arteries. Additionally, Cook Group is using the drug to develop drug-eluting stents that prop open clogged arteries.
