For the past 40 years, Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding (formerly Northrop Grumman Newport News) has been the only builder of the US Navy's aircraft carriers (it's also one of only two nuclear sub builders -- the other is General Dynamics). Now a division of Northrop Grumman, the largest naval shipbuilding company in the world (General Dynamics is #2), Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding builds, maintains, refuels, and repairs nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. Its other ship operations include the building of commercial and military ships at its Ingalls (assault ships, destroyers, cargo vessels, oil tankers) and Avondale (amphibious assault ships, minehunters, cruiser, survey ships, icebreakers) shipyards.
