Aastrom Biosciences brings new life to dying tissue. Its proprietary Tissue Repair Cell (TRC) technology uses a patient's own cells (harvested from bone marrow) to manufacture products to treat a range of chronic diseases. The new cells, created through a sterile, automated process, are then used in tissue regeneration therapies for the donor patient. The US-based company's ongoing development activities are primarily focused on applying TRC technology to cardiovascular applications including cardiomyopathy (weakening of the heart muscle) and critical limb ischemia (severe obstruction of the arteries). Aastrom is led by CEO George Dunbar, who also owns a small stake in the publicly-held company.
