A ride on this METRO could be a shopper's delight. The company, Germany's largest retailer, owns and operates some 2,200 wholesale stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets, department stores, and Media Markt and Saturn consumer electronics shops. More than half of its shops are in Germany, but METRO also has stores in 30 other countries, including China and Poland. Store banners include Metro and makro cash & carry wholesale outlets, Real hypermarkets, and Galeria Kaufhof department stores. METRO also runs restaurants in its department stores and offers advertising and insurance to its retail chains. German conglomerate Franz Haniel and the Schmidt-Ruthenbeck family control METRO.
