Toray Industries, through a string of about 200 subsidiaries and affiliates, has sewn together a diversified enterprise engaged in the worldwide production of synthetic fibers and textiles, films, resins, chemicals, plastics, and other products. Toray's fibers and textiles segment manufactures such products as spun yarns, woven and knitted nylon fabrics, and polyester fabrics, mainly for the apparel industry. The company's plastics and chemicals segment makes resins and specialty films. Other products range from artificial kidneys to contact lenses. Toray Industries gets most of its sales in Asia, primarily from Japan.
