Call it corporate origami. Nippon Paper Group (formerly Nippon Unipac Holding) was created by folding two rivals together (Nippon Paper Industries and Daishowa Paper Manufacturing), resulting in the largest paper producer in Japan. Nippon's Pulp & Paper division makes newsprint and printing paper, converted paper products, pulp, paperboard, and household paper goods. The Paper-Related division makes paper products and chemicals, while the Housing and Construction Materials segment provides lumber and building materials. The Other division offers beverage bottling, logistics, and power generation. Nippon Paper Group has about 20 mills in Japan, as well as extensive overseas operations.
