Barnes & Noble College Booksellers is the scholastic sister company of Barnes & Noble (B&N), the US's largest book merchant. Established in 1965, the company operates about 625 campus bookstores nationwide, selling textbooks, trade books, school supplies, collegiate clothing, and emblematic merchandise. It also offers merchandise through campus bookstores' Web sites. Universities, medical and law schools, and community colleges hire Barnes & Noble College Booksellers to replace traditional campus cooperatives. (The schools get a cut of the sales.) B&N Chairman Leonard Riggio, who owned a controlling interest in the company, sold it back to Barnes & Noble for $596 million in October 2009.
