Thanks to Sumitomo Metal Industries (SMI), you'll find a great set of pipes in the Tokyo Opera City cultural complex. SMI is one of Japan's leading seamless pipe producers; it also makes steel sheet, steel construction materials, and industrial components. The company's steel pipes are used primarily for oil and gas drilling and large-diameter welded pipes. The company also manufactures wheels, axles, and other components in the manufacture of trains. While its steel business accounts for pretty much all of its sales, SMI also makes silicon wafers and has a wafer manufacturing joint venture with Mitsubishi Materials.
