Chubu Electric Power is Japan's third-largest electric utility, after Tokyo Electric and Kansai Electric. The company serves central Japan's Chubu region, which includes Nagoya, one of the country's largest cities. With a generating capacity of nearly 32,500 MW, the utility distributes power to about 10 million residential and business customers. In response to deregulation, Chubu Electric has moved into new industries, including telecommunications, information technology, natural gas supply, LNG (liquefied natural gas) transportation, on-site power generation systems, real estate leasing, and international power generation and consulting. The company was established in 1951.
