ArQule has decided to major in molecular biology. The biotechnology firm had been providing chemistry services to help drugmakers discover new potential drug compounds. However, it has switched from being a helper to becoming a doer. Now ArQule is developing its own portfolio of oncology drugs, with a handful of anti-cancer compounds undergoing clinical trials. It is testing its most advanced candidate, ARQ 197, as a treatment for a variety of tumor types; and it is working with partner Roche on a handful of other anti-cancer compounds that reactivate the cellular functions that kill cancer cells.
