There's gold in them thar roots! Canada's Chai-Na-Ta is the world's largest grower of North American ginseng, a root long prized in Asian medicine. The company farms about 1,500 acres in Ontario (it stopped planting in British Columbia in 2006) and harvests about 1 million pounds every year. Each root takes four years to mature. Chai-Na-Ta's products include ginseng in capsule, powder, and whole root form; it also sells sliced ginseng and ginseng tea. The company markets its products in Hong Kong, China, and Southeast Asia; sales outside North America account for about three quarters of its revenues. Chai-Na-Ta opened in 1981
