Superior Essex works to make top-notch wire and cable. The company is one of the US's leading makers of outdoor copper telephone cable. Its copper and fiber-optic products are used in communications networks, while its magnet wire can be found in transformers and motors in cars, industrial machinery, and HVAC systems. Customers in the US, which previously accounted for nearly 95% of sales, now account for a little less than 80% due to expansion in Europe. Regional Bell telephone operating companies are major customers of Superior Essex, as are OEMs such as Delphi and A.O. Smith. Korea-based LS Cable paid $900 million to acquire Superior Essex in 2008.
