Tollbooths aren't the only state operation to throw your money at in New Jersey. The New Jersey State Lottery Commission operates a variety of scratch-off and numbers games offering cash payouts, including its Jersey Cash 5 and Pick-6 Lotto games. New Jersey also participates in Mega Millions, a 12-state lottery with weekly jackpots increasing from $12 million. Lottery tickets are sold through more than 6,000 retailers statewide. Established in 1970, the lottery commission distributes 56% of its revenue as prizes; 35% goes to state education programs and other state-funded institutions.
