Many metal makers lack the mettle of ArcelorMittal. The company is easily the largest steel making entity in the world, producing more than 100 million tons annually. Operating globally -- though strongest in Europe -- ArcelorMittal manufactures the full range of steel products: slabs and coil, coated steel and tinplate, wire rod and rebar, billets and blooms, as well as all manner of stainless and electrical steel products. CEO and founder Lakshmi Mittal controls nearly half of ArcelorMittal and has blazed through this decade making a number of gigantic acquisitions, the largest being the Franco-Belgian amalgam Arcelor, to make his company far and away the leader in the global steel industry.
