Swedish gear-jammer Scania is one of the world's largest heavy-truck and bus manufacturers, hauling in sales from more than 100 countries; it gets about two-thirds of sales in Europe. The company focuses on trucks with gross weights of 16 tons or greater. Scania also makes buses for public transit and tourism, builds industrial and marine engines, and offers maintenance and financing services. It delivers more than 50,000 trucks and 5,500 buses per year. Volkswagen currently owns about 38% of Scania, but it received antitrust approval to up its voting stake to almost 70% at the cost of some $4.4 billion. Once the deal is complete, Scania will remain a separate company located at its current headquarters.
