If artificial blood becomes a reality, the manufacturers can hook up with AdvanSource Biomaterials, maker of synthetic blood vessels. The company's products replace or bypass damaged and diseased arteries and provide access for dialysis needles in kidney disease patients undergoing hemodialysis. These man-made blood vessels, also called vascular grafts, are made of ChronoFlex, the company's polyurethane-based biomaterial. Its CardioPass product candidate is a synthetic coronary artery bypass graft. AdvanSource's HydroThane polymer-based biomaterial mimics living tissue and is marketed for use by other medical device makers.
