Through sheer concentration and might, Compañía de Minas Buenaventura extracts metals in the form of silver-lead, silver-gold, zinc, and lead-gold-copper concentrates. Gold accounts for about 50% of the company's sales. Buenaventura owns almost 45% in Latin America's largest gold property, the Yanacocha mine in Peru, which has 28 million ounces in proved and probable reserves. (Newmont owns the remaining stake in Yanacocha.) Another significant investment is the company's 19% stake in the Peruvian Cerro Verde mine, which is controlled by Freeport-McMoRan. Buenaventura also owns electric power transmission and engineering services companies for the mining industry.
