The chicken wings aren't the only spicy items at Hooters. Hooters of America operates and franchises more than 430 Hooters restaurants in about 40 states and more than 25 other countries. The beach-themed bar-and-grills catering to sports fans are known for their spicy chicken wings and their hostesses, who dress in the chain's trademark bright orange short shorts and tight T-shirts. Other menu items include chili, burgers, sandwiches, and beer. The company operates about 160 locations and franchises the rest. The first Hooters opened in 1983 and in 2011 an investment consortium led by Chanticleer Holdings bought the chain.
