Elan has brains on its mind. The company is focused on the development of pharmaceuticals for neurological and autoimmune diseases, as well as for severe pain and infection. Its product offerings include anti-infectives Maxipime and Azactam and severe chronic pain infusion Prialt. Elan's future fortunes rely largely on the success of beleaguered multiple sclerosis (MS) therapy Tysabri, which it co-developed with Biogen Idec. Elan's pipeline of potential future releases includes drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Its Elan Drug Technologies unit provides specialty drug development using its oral time-release technology to improve the delivery of drugs.
