What's the Hot Topic? "Everything About the Music," according to this punkish, teen-oriented retailer. Hot Topic's 680 mall-based stores in the US and Puerto Rico sell rock-inspired clothing and accessories in settings resembling industrial clubs where kids (ages 12 to 22) gather to party. The retailer also runs about 160 Torrid shops for plus-sized girls (as old as 26!). Teens can buy T-shirts from TV shows, such as "SpongeBob SquarePants," and licensed concert apparel from current and classic rockers including AFI, Slipknot, Nirvana and Metallica. Its ShockHound.com business offers digital music downloads and sells music related merchandise. Hot Top was founded in 1989 to fill the music-licensed apparel niche.
