Miravant Medical Technologies wants to shed a little light on diseases. Miravant uses its trademark PhotoPoint technology to develop photodynamic therapies, which use light to activate drugs. The pharmaceutical research and development company's main disease target is age-related macular degeneration (AMD), blindness caused by blood vessels growing abnormally under the retina surface. Miravant currently awaits FDA regulatory approval of lead product candidate PHOTREX (formerly called SnET2). Other products in various stages of pre-clinical development are designed to fight plaque psoriasis, atherosclerosis, vascular graft disease, and solid tumors. St. Cloud Investments controls about 34% of Miravant.
