The Emeritus Corporation honors the retirement set. The company operates assisted-living communities for senior citizens who don't need the more intensive care provided by nursing homes, but may need some help with daily activities such as feeding, bathing, housekeeping, and managing their medications. Emeritus' communities also organize social and recreational activities for residents, and most of them provide special services (called Join Their Journey programs) to support residents with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia. Emeritus owns, leases, or manages more than 300 communities in about 40 states across the US, some under the Summerville name.
