Tapestry Pharmaceuticals is coming unraveled. The drug ingredient and development firm founded in 1991 as NaPro Biotherapeutics primarily targeted cancer, but it has had to sell nearly all of its assets. It did hang onto a single anti-cancer compound in development, which may slow tumor growth in some types of drug-resistant solid tumors, including prostate and non-small cell lung cancers. It licensed most of its rights to the TPI 287 drug in 2008 to Archer Bioscience, although Tapestry may receive some payments if certain milestones are reached. However, as its assets shrunk and its debts mounted, the company reduced its staff, discontinued its lab operations, and ultimately, in 2009, filed for bankruptcy.
