Because the last thing you want to do when you're sick is drive to a doctor's office, Amedisys has decided to bring health care to you. Through some 500 home health care agencies located across the US, the company provides skilled nursing and home health aide services to primarily geriatric patients covered by Medicare. Its range of services includes disease-specific programs that help patients recovering from stroke, for instance, or assist those coping with emphysema or diabetes. In addition to its home health services, Amedisys owns or manages about 50 hospice agencies that offer palliative care to terminally ill patients.
