Gamblers looking beyond casino games can climb the summit of MTR Gaming Group. MTR's Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort in West Virginia includes horse racing and wagering, in addition to some 3,200 slot machines, 40 poker tables, and some 50 additional table games. The complex boasts a convention center and a 360-room hotel that offers amenities such as restaurants, a spa and salon, a retail plaza, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. MTR also owns Scioto Downs in Ohio; 90% of Jackson Harness Raceway in Michigan; and the Presque Isle Downs & Casino in Pennsylvania, which opened in 2007. The company in 2008 built a race track in Minnesota through its 50%-owned affiliate, North Metro Harness Initiative.
