Universal Detection Technology (UDT) has traded in acid rain for bioterrorism. UDT has leveraged its expertise in air pollution monitoring into products to identify airborne biological and chemical hazards in bio-terrorism monitoring systems. Its first product -- originally called the Anthrax Smoke Detector and now known as the BSM-2000 -- is intended to continuously check the air in public buildings for anthrax spores. The device is an outgrowth of an agreement with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) that called for JPL to develop its bacterial spore detection technology for integration into UDT's aerosol monitoring system.
