Vasomedical's noninvasive treatments for angina and congestive heart failure get patients' blood pumping. The company's main product is the EECP (enhanced external counterpulsation) system, which is also approved to treat coronary artery disease and cardiogenic shock. During the company's Medicare-covered treatments, cuffs attached to the patient's calves and thighs inflate and deflate in sync with the patient's heart beat, increasing and decreasing aortic blood pressure. After about 35 treatments, patients may experience years of symptomatic relief. Vasomedical sells the system to hospitals, clinics, and other health care providers worldwide through a direct sales force and independent distributors.
