Commerce Group owns El Salvador's San Sebastian Gold Mine, which contains some 1.5 million ounces of gold reserves. Production at the mine has been suspended since 1999, however, while the company works to raise money to upgrade the facility's gold-processing equipment. Commerce Group also explores for other gold and silver mining opportunities in El Salvador. In 2008 the company announced plans to acquire Voter Communications, Inc. and totally reorganize its entire operations, including selling or spinning off its holdings in the San Sebastian mine.
