Having failed to strike gold in the pollution business and feeling fried, Alanco Technologies turned to data storage and tracking. The company once made pollution control systems, owned gold mines, and made an unsuccessful foray into the restaurant fryer business. It now operates subsidiaries involved in data storage products (Excel Meridian Data), radio-frequency identification (RFID) tracking devices for correctional facilities (Alanco/TSI PRISM, Inc.), and GPS tracking systems for the refrigerated transport industry (StarTrak Systems). StarTrak provides its tracking data services in North America on a subscription basis.
