Operating these cranes probably won't lead to a career in heavy construction. Coinstar Entertainment Services owns coin-operated skill-crane game machines, which let players vie for merchandise like stuffed animals by maneuvering a crane. The firm also operates bulk vending machines, kiddie rides, and video games. All told, Coinstar Entertainment (AKA Sugarloaf) owns about 280,000 pieces of equipment. The machines are located at restaurants and retail stores across the US, including Wal-Mart and Kmart. The retailers receive a portion of each machine's gross revenue. Coinstar, a maker of coin counting machines, bought the company in 2004 and changed its name from American Coin Merchandising two years later.
