Best Buy has rivals, but none more so than P.C. Richard & Son. The family-owned retailer has about 65 electronics stores in the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut area. P.C. Richard sells home electronics (DVD players, TVs), computers and appliances (microwaves, vacuum cleaners), and entertainment systems (portable electronics, video games, satellites). P.C. Richard also sells its wares online. In 2003 the company acquired the name, trademark, and customer list of bankrupt electronics chain Nobody Beats The Wiz. Founded in 1909 by Dutch immigrant and jack-of-all-trades Peter Christiään Richard as a hardware store, the business is operated by third- and fourth-generation Richard family members.
