Ahold USA is the American arm of Netherlands-based Royal Ahold -- one of the world's leading grocery retailers. The subsidiary oversees more than 700 supermarkets in three chains. The largest supermarket chain, Stop & Shop in New England, runs some 380 stores. The other two chains have similar names: Giant-Carlisle (the operator of Giant Food and Martin's Food Markets in four northeastern states) and Giant-Landover (mostly in the Baltimore-Washington, DC, area). Its online grocery delivery service Peapod serves Giant Food and Stop & Shop customers in select markets. Ahold USA's Dutch parent has announced a reorganization of its US and European operations.
