Specialty pharmaceutical firm Biovail has unveiled a number of improved versions of existing drugs using its oral drug-delivery technologies. The company makes extended-release versions of GlaxoSmithKline'santidepressant Wellbutrin (Wellbutrin XL), Sanofi-Aventis' blood pressure medication Cardizem (Cardizem LA), and J&J's chronic pain drug Ultram (Ultram ER). Other products include genital herpes treatment Zovirax, anti-hypertensive Tiazac, and diabetes therapy Glumetza (licensed from Depomed). Biovail is also developing new central nervous system (CNS) therapies. The firm sells its products through marketing partnerships and direct sales representatives, primarily in the US and Canada.
